Crystal Lake nursing home employee charged with sexual assault

A 22-year-old Woodstock man employed as a caregiver at a Crystal Lake nursing home has been charged with sexually assaulting a 93-year-old woman, according to police.

The victim, who was in the care of the Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 335 N. Illinois St., reported the crime to police on Sept. 25, and Angelo J. Bird was arrested Monday, police said.

The woman says that Bird, who lives on the 800 block of Prairie View Lane in Woodstock, assaulted her during the early morning hours on Sept. 25 when he was working as a certified nurse’s assistant at the nursing home, police said.

The victim was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock for an examination after the assault, where she met with police.

The Woodstock Police Department arrested Bird at his home Monday on a charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault, according to police,

Bird posted 10 percent of his $40,000 bail and was released from the McHenry County jail.

He is due in court on Nov. 17.

If convicted, the charge carries a prison sentence of six to 30 years.
