Let’s stand up and demand lower taxes

Taxes, taxes, taxes — when will they stop increasing? It’s amazing how my property tax has almost doubled within the past few years as my property value has decreased by $50,000. The amount of taxes that go toward Districts 211 and 54 is absurd. If Schaumburg spent their money wisely instead of on frivolous things such as painting street lights, then perhaps residents wouldn’t have to pay so much for teachers’ pensions.

Government and school district employees should have a retirement plan like the private sector. They’re not any more important than the rest of us.

With the economic recession many residents are down to a one-income household. Jobs are nowhere to be found, prices keep going up, and we just can’t afford this type of increase. Many businesses have already left Schaumburg to neighboring communities. Storefronts and industrial parks are looking deserted.

High taxes in general are a downfall to the community and economic growth. One person alone can’t make a difference; we need to pull together as a community and fight for lower taxes.
