Halt Sears tax break

There are more than 21,000 children in District 300, and for the last 23 years they have been figuratively told to sit quietly at the back of the bus while their educational inheritance was stolen from them. The EDA deal worked out between Sears and Hoffman Estates 23 years ago has stolen more than $200 million of school property taxes from the students of District 300 and, if allowed to continue, will steal another $210 million.

It is time to stop this injustice and give the students of District 300 their fair share of the school property tax revenues. Our state legislators have the opportunity to right this wrong by removing Amendment 3 from Bill 540 in October. By removing this amendment the school property tax revenue that D300 students deserve will finally start coming to their schools: lowering class size, providing needed teachers and support staff and making their education equal to other schools in Illinois.

Please, legislators in Springfield, remove Amendment 3 so when the children pledge allegiance each morning they can finally believe there is liberty and justice for all.
