Schaumburg parks big on Halloween

The Schaumburg Park District is planning two Halloween events — an outdoor one for families and an indoor one for kids on the evening itself.

For “A Haunting in the Valley,” the park district transforms the twisting trails of the Spring Valley Nature Center into a haunting experience. Hours are 6:15-9:30 p.m. Oct. 28-29. Covered wagons will take groups to the trail entrance every 15 minutes for a half-hour walk; and games, a live owl, refreshments and a bonfire will be at the Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

Tickets are at the Nature Center; $5 before Oct. 22 and $6 at the door. (847) 985-2100 or parkfun.com.

On Halloween night, kids 1-14 are invited to “Halloween Boonanza,” 6-9 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg. Hayrides, crafts, goblin games, a moonwalk, entertainment, prizes, a haunted house and trick-or-treating through Ken Alley Safety Park. $7 per child before 9 p.m. Oct. 28; day-of registration is $9. Parents and children under 2 free. (847) 490-7020 or parkfun.com.
