Girls volleyball / Lake County roundup

Mundelein’s girls volleyball team had ample motivation Tuesday night, and the Mustangs delivered a victory in North Suburban Conference crossover action.

Brittany Busscher slammed 7 kills and served 2 aces, as Mundelein defeated visiting Zion-Benton 25-19, 25-23 in the Mustangs’ Lynn Sage breast cancer awareness match.

Mundelein (12-10) also received strong contributions from Ashley Dolin (5 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks), Courtney Perrault (5 kills), Karen Chin (38-of-39 setting, 16 assists), Karolina Sierzputowska (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Madi Wilcox (19-of-19 setting, 6 assists).

Round Lake d. North Chicago: Clarissa Trujillo and Izzy Rodriguez each had 4 kills, and Bianca Duna set 19 of 19 and delivered 3 aces, as the Panthers won 25-10, 25-14 in North Suburban Prairie play.

Sara Plasencia had 13 digs for Round Lake, and Cathy Gonzales served 2 aces.

Lakes d. Grant: Alex Silvola had 5 kills, and Emily Aigner and Sarah Horner each had four, helping the Eagles win 25-14, 25-9 in North Suburban Prairie action.

Rachel Sieracke rang up 13 assists and 3 kills for Lakes (16-7, 4-1).

Grayslake North d. Woodstock: Kelsey Klausner and Katie McGrath each had 5 kills for the Knights, who celebrated Senior Night by rallying for a 16-24, 25-18, 25-17 win.

Grayslake North (9-18) improved to 5-4 in the Fox Valley Fox, its most wins in the division in the program’s history.

Alaina Geissberger added 6 blocks and 2 kills for the Knights, and Lisa Lowry was 49-of-49 setting. Jenni Babula chipped in 3 blocks, 2 aces and 2 kills.

CL Central d. Grayslake Central: Despite Klaudia Basierak’s 9 kills and Gabi Casper’s six, the Rams fell 25-12, 23-25, 25-18.

Meghan Brewster set 72 of 73 with 18 assists, and Grayslake Central (19-9, 7-3 Fox Valley Fox) also got 23 digs from Maria Treto. Alex Dahlstrom and Treto had 3 aces apiece.

“We played some excellent volleyball against a high-powered CLC team,” Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. “Our defense was solid, and it was exciting to see the girls play aggressively. CLC is a great team, and I’m proud of the girls for pushing them to three and playing at such a high level.”
