St. Viator finishes second in ESCC tourney

St. Viator’s girls golf team placed second to Marian Catholic in Friday’s East Suburban Catholic Conference meet at the Village Greens of Woodridge.

Marian Catholic, which also defeated the Lions in dual meet play by 5 strokes this season, was first with a 339 while St. Viator carded 356.

Next came Providence Catholic (366), Carmel (367), Benet (371), Fenwick (387), Nazareth (389), Marist (398), Bishop McNamara (404) and Joliet Catholic (436).

Georgia recruit Sylvie Brick of Marian Catholic (80) held off defending co-champion and sophomore Dana Gattone of St. Viator by 1 stroke.

Meg Maloney of Marist tied Gattone for second (81s) while Jessica Trunzo of Carmel was fourth with an 83.

Marian Catholic’s Bree Veasey, who tied for first with Gattone in last year’s ESCC meet, rounded out the top five with an 84.

The highlight of the day for the Lions was senior and team captain Molly O’Keeffe’s sixth-place finish with a score of 85.

Lions junior Amy Stringfellow (91) became a conference medalist for the third straight year with a 16th-place finish.

Other St. Viator scores were Haley Gainer 99, Courtney Christophe 108, and Chrissy Wimberly 113.
