First day a flag-raiser in U-46
The first day of school in Elgin Area School District U-46 featured jitters and tears, as well as new outfits and supplies.
And we’re just talking about the 10 new principals in the district who began in their official capacities Wednesday.
Students were equally keen to be back at school.
Superintendent Jose Torres visited each of the newly appointed principals and said every building he stopped by was abuzz with activity and an itch to start the new school year.
“I think there’s a lot of excitement. Kids are excited to be back at school and so are their teachers,“ Torres said. “Summer can be tough for a lot of families because there’s not a lot of enrichment. So, they’re glad to be back with their friends.”
Principal Steve Johnson makes sure students are headed to the correct classes Wednesday during first day of school at Highland Elementary School in Elgin.
