New school year starts in District 300

More than 20,000 students headed back to school Monday for the first day of classes in Community Unit District 300.

It is the beginning of a new era under the guidance of Superintendent Michael Bregy and the newly formed teaching and learning team.

“It was a perfect day. You couldn’t ask for a better day,” Bregy said. “We had momentum from the staff rally, so the staff was excited and the kids were excited.”

Bregy started the day at Jacobs High School in Algonquin before visiting Lincoln Prairie and Lake in the Hills elementary schools.

“It’s a time to celebrate and it makes such a difference when the weather cooperates,” Bregy said. “Families were out there with mom, dad and siblings with kids lining up in the sunshine. Everyone was pumped up.”
