Carpentersville’s classic car show rescheduled
Just spoke with Humberto Garcia, the organizer of the Carpentersville antique car show that recently was rained out, and he’s delighted to say they’ve rescheduled.
The car show will be held during the village’s celebration of Oktoberfest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Otto Engineering parking lot at Lincoln Avenue and Main Street. You can then join the Oktoberfest festivities at nearby Carpenter Park.
The auto show is a fundraiser for the maintenance of the fire department’s Sept. 11 memorial. The previous show raised $507, which Garcia presented to Fire Chief John Schuldt at last week’s board meeting.
In addition to the $220 collected from the entry fees, an additional $200 came from one of the exhibitors and $67 came as a result of the food sold that day, Garcia said.

Hampshire cancer benefit concert: Nick Villani and Brenna Richie, two recent graduates from Hampshire High School, are holding their third annual cancer awareness benefit concert from 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Hampshire Middle School, 560 S. State St. The day includes live music from 10 bands. Organizers also encourage you to bring a canned food item for the Burlington-Hampshire Food Pantry, in exchange for a raffle ticket. Admission is $4 and all proceeds will go toward the American Cancer Society#146;s Relay For Life of Community Unit District 300. Debbie Gizzi, the mother of Villani#146;s best friend, died three years ago of cancer, and he and Richie have put the concert together ever since. As part of the event, the firefighters will stand at various intersections in town holding out boots for you to make your donation. They will be doing this from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 20 and 27, at the following intersections: Route 25 and Lake Marian Road, Route 25 and Route 68, Route 31 and Spruce Drive, and Randall Road and Miller Road. Authorities originally planned to run the campaign in July, but they got rained out. Firefighter Tony Ferreiro says the goal is to collect $7,000 this year. In 2010, they collected $6,500, probably due to the economy, he said.
