Vets invited to Schaumburg event Aug. 14
Veterans and the general public are invited to attend the “Pillars of Honor” event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the Rasmussen Room of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg. The original scale model of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be unveiled. World War II veterans who register for the event will be honored by having their name printed in the program and will receive a gift. Register by Saturday, Aug. 6, by calling (847) 923-3391. The keynote speaker, George Haupt, is president of the Tomb Guard Society and served as a sentinel, as well as on the Honor Guard and Drill Team, while in the Army.
