Pay your library fines with food donations

Patrons of the Schaumburg Township District Library can whittle down their library fines by donating nonperishable food items throughout July.

Food collected at the library will be given to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. Each item is worth 50 cents toward fines, with a limit of 10 items per visit. Expired or perishable items will not be accepted.

“This is a wonderful way for us to help the food pantry, which is always in need of food these days,” said Stephanie Sarnoff, library director. “Many of our patrons have commented on how much they like the Food for Fines plan when we do it in December, so we decided to start holding it in the summer as well.”

Food may be dropped off at the Check-in Desk at the central library in Schaumburg, or at the Hoffman Estates or Hanover Park branch libraries.
