Local parish reaches out to global community
On June 9-10, St. Michael Catholic Church sponsored a Feed My Starving Children Mobilpack Event. At the event, almost five hundred inner-generational volunteers from the parish and the surrounding area collaborated efforts to package 117,504 meals, which will be sent to some of the neediest children in the world.
Individuals representing many of the various St. Michael Parish ministries, Wheaton grade schools, area high schools and parishes worked side by side in order to exceed the original goal set of 100,000 meals.
Event organizer Annamarie Boyle said, “This event was very positive for the community, but more importantly, truly life saving for thousands of children who will receive the blessings of hope and health through these efforts.”
Also key in the execution of the Mobilpack event were Larry Weithers, Tom Ruggaber, Dan Donovan, John Thacker, Todd Boskey, members of the FMSC Planning Committee.
The June Mobilepack event followed up a successful inaugural packing event, which was also spearheaded by Boyle in June, 2010.
“When Feed My Starving Children asked me to do it again this year, there was no way I could say no,” Boyle said. “We have so many blessings here and I'm very happy to do it, it's a very small way to give back.”
Seeking a Partner in the Wheaton Area
St. Michael Church and Feed My Starving Children are currently seeking another church or organization to partner with them in continuing to serving those most in need of physical and spiritual nourishment.
