Eight Elgin area seniors awarded scholarships

The Wisdom Family Foundation recently awarded $1,500 scholarships to be used toward higher education expenses to eight Elgin Area School District U-46 high school seniors: Laura Ballance (South Elgin), Brent Cooks (Larkin), Neissa Diabate (Elgin), Chelaire Lewis (Larkin), Paulina Ruby Nava (Larkin), Everardo Frias Rios (Streamwood), Donovan Summerville (South Elgin) and Seanteal Thigpen (South Elgin).

The eight students were presented with their 2011 scholarships at the Wisdom Family Foundation Scholarship Award Dinner on May 5.

In addition to the scholarships awarded, the Wisdom Family Foundation donated $10,000 to the U-46 Educational Foundation for the Project Access program. Project Access works to ensure that underprivileged children have equal access to educational opportunities.

In order to qualify for this scholarship, candidates were required to meet specific application criteria. Kristi Wisdom of the Wisdom Family Foundation board stated, “The U-46 scholarship program targets students who have faced and overcome extraordinary challenges and encourages their continued commitment to education. We are pleased to be able to offer these students scholarships and recognize their strong passion and commitment to furthering their education.”

The Wisdom Family Foundation supports sustainable initiatives for children and families in the greater Elgin area and provides financial support to organizations and programs that assist in the growth and overall well-being of children and families. The Wisdom Foundation scholarship program offers students the opportunity to earn scholarships to further their education. Recent Wisdom Family Foundation donations to organizations include:

Ÿ Awarding four Elgin U-46 High School seniors in 2010, with scholarships to be used toward higher education expenses.

Ÿ Gifting money to the U-46 Educational Foundation for Project Access, a program working to ensure that underprivileged children have equal access to educational opportunities.

Ÿ Donating to the South Elgin High School Booster Foundation's stadium fundraising campaign.

Ÿ Sponsoring a bowling fundraiser to benefit the Natalie Chastain Fund.

Ÿ Contributing to Feeding Greater Elgin, an Elgin food pantry.

Established in 2007, the Wisdom Family Foundation's mission is to foster the positive growth and well-being of children and families in the greater Elgin area through financial and charitable support. The foundation advocates for strong families and youth programs. Applications for Wisdom Family Foundation grant money from organizations, individuals and families need to be sustainable in nature and must have a positive effect on their beneficiaries, the environment or a cause.
