Schaumburg moves on
A big night from Alexa Ben helped lead second-seeded Schaumburg to a 3-0 victory in its own Class 3A girls soccer regional semifinal over No. 15 Glenbard North.
Ben set up Kelsey Steenstrup for the first goal and scored off an assist from Stephanie Pouse for a 2-0 halftime lead. Teagan Eberle scored the final Saxons’ goal.
Schaumburg will host the regional final at 6 p.m. Frdiay against No. 6 West Chicago, a 2-1 winner over South Elgin.
Elk Grove 2, Bartlett 1: Michelle Calmeyn and Kelly Naughton scored goals and keeper Melissa Solorio had 5 saves for No. 5 Elk Grove in the St. Charles North regional semifinal.
Elk Grove will play for the regional title at 6:30 p.m. Friday against No. 3 St. Charles North, a 4-1 winner over Glenbard West.
Conant 8, Hoffman Estates 0: Top-seed Conant took care of Mid-Suburban West rival and No. 17 Hoffman Estates in the Wheaton North regional semifinal. The Cougars play for the title at 6 p.m. Friday against No. 8 St. Charles East, a 1-0 winner in double overtime over No. 9 Wheaton North.
Fremd 2, Prospect 0: Top-seeded Fremd won the Libertyville regional semifinal and advanced to Friday’s 6 p.m. final against No. 9 Libertyville, a 2-0 winner over No. 8 St. Viator.
Maine West 1, Leyden 0: Eighth-seeded Maine West got past No. 9 Leyden in the Loyola regoinal semifinal. The Warriors will play for the title at 7 p.m. Friday against No. 1 Loyola, which beat Mather 11-0.
