Huntley, CL South move on
Aimee Wronski scored twice and four other players found the back of the net Tuesday as the Huntley girls soccer team opened the postseason with a 6-0 win over Larkin in the semifinals of the Class 3A Rockford Jefferson regional.
The Red Raiders (18-1-1) will take on the winner of today’s game between Jefferson and DeKalb in the 11 a.m. regional title game on Saturday.
Rachel Chapuis, Bre Burry, Priscilla Jara and Delaney Loprieno also scored goals for Huntley, while Kaytlyn Owens made 1 save in 67 minutes in the goal.
CL South 11, Round Lake 0: Christina Szocka scored a hat trick and Emily Schoenfeldt and Kali Loescher 2 goals each as the Gators (16-7-2) won easily in the semifinals of the Class 3A CL South regional. Karli Schumaker, Audrey Collard and Elizabeth Massat each had goals for CL South as well, and Elizabeth Quinn made 1 save in goal for her 12th shutout of the season. The Gators will play the winner of today’s game between McHenry and Prairie Ridge in the 11 a.m. regional title game on Saturday.
West Chicago 2, South Elgin 1: Lauren Vedrine scored South Elgin’s only goal as the Storm (10-10) had their season ended at the Class 3A Schaumburg regional.
Elk Grove 2, Bartlett 1: One of the hottest teams entering the playoffs, Bartlett got a near-perfect start when Nicole Gobbo scored just 3 minutes into Tuesday’s second semifinal at St. Charles North.
But the Hawks (11-7-4) were unable to hold Elk Grove at bay and the Grenadiers finished with a 2-1 victory. While Bartlett had a few other chances, the bulk of the possession and shots came from Elk Grove, and with 11 minutes left in the half, Lindsey Vaccarino fed Kelly Naughton, who tied the match.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, Naughton beat Bartlett’s defense as it pushed forward and Michelle Calmeyn ran onto the ball and scored.
Elk Grove (10-6-5) faces St. Charles North at 6 p.m. on Friday for the regional title.
