Upset-minded Barrington advances

The Barrington upset express just keeps rolling along.

The Fillies, seeded No. 6 in the sectional they’re hosting, had already beaten No. 3 seed St. Viator in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

In Friday’s semifinals, Barrington upped the ante, eliminating No. 2 seed Schaumburg 5-3.

Lisa Danhauer scored twice, and Chloe Padula, Laura Danhauer and Kayla Widdowson also tallied for Barrington, which meets Fremd in today’s 4 p.m. championship matchup.

Schaumburg (17-8) got goals from Stephanie Porter, Sammy Schuckles and goalkeeper Atheena Wagner (10 saves).

Veteran goalkeeper Brooke Fanslow made 10 saves for Barrington (13-10).

Fremd 14, Hersey 5: Samantha Matsuzewski led the with with 6 goals and Amy Ruiz had 2 as the top-seeded Vikings earned a spot in sectional championship play.

A victory today against Barrington would put the Vikings (23-4) into the Elite Eight for the fourth straight year.

Senior standout Christine Rovani had 2 goals for the fourth-seeded Huskies (19-11).

Glenbrook North sectional

Top-seeded Loyola turned back a game effort from No. 4 seed Prospect (21-4) and earned a 16-9 victory over the Mid-Suburban East champions. The Ramblers (22-6) will face New Trier (20-10), which edged Evanston 9-8 in overtime, in today’s championship game.

Vernon Hills sectional

The top two seeds, Mundelein and Stevenson, respectively, will meet for the championship today. Stevenson (24-8) ousted No. 3 Wheeling (14-12) by a 13-5 count Friday, while Mundelein (23-7) handled Vernon Hills 13-3.
