Schaumburg kicks off National Library Week

Miss Cook County Outstanding Pre-Teen 2011 Arielle Christopher of Streamwood read a book to youngsters to help kick off National Library Week 2011 at Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 South Roselle Road, Schaumburg, on Sunday, April 10.

“I believe that reading in early childhood paves the way for a child’s success in school,” said Christopher. “So let’s read a book and have some fun!”

Miss Cook County Outstanding Pre-Teen performed the book reading at 12:45 p.m. in the Youth Services Enchanted Forest area. Several young children sat attentively and listened as Christopher read “Llama Llama Red Pajama” by Anna Dewdney.

National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, librarians, and to promote library use.

Arielle Christopher, age 12, is the first Miss Cook County Outstanding Pre-Teen. Arielle’s year of service platform is to support needy kids through community service.
