Softball/Fox Valley roundup

Senior Sarah Field pitched her best game of the season and classmate Tarah McShane provided the power again as the St. Edward softball team won for the second day in a row, blanking Chicago Christian 2-0 in a Suburban Christian Blue game in Palos Hills.

Field fired a 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts and only 3 walks and her defense backed her up by committing just 1 error.

McShane (2-for-2) hit her third home run of the season and second in two days to give the Green Wave (2-6, 2-1) a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. St. Edward added a run in the sixth when courtesy runner Darcy Gaige came home in a groundout by Kelsey Richmond.

“Sarah pitched well today and we played a solid defensive game and Tarah just keeps hitting with great consistency,” said St. Edward coach Jaci Corn. “It was nice to pick up another conference win.”

Burlington Central 14, Richmond-Burton 4: The Rockets’ torrid hitting continued as they pounded out 18 hits in this Big Northern East win. Sarah Kisch, Bekah Harnish and Emily Bell all homered for Central (7-5, 2-0) and Lauren King had a double. Brooke Gaylord (2-1) was the winning pitcher, allowing 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks. “We’re doing well offensively,” said BC coach Cray Allen. “We’re being good disciplined hitters.”

Hampshire 3, North Boone 1: Jen Hurst (2-6) tossed a 3-hitter and had an RBI as the Whip-Purs (3-8, 1-1) notched a Big Northern East win. Tiffany Bentley had a double and an RBI for Hampshire, while Aly Bosley added an RBI. Hurst struck out nine and walked four.

Westminster Christian 9, Rockford Christian 6: Rachel Fugiel was the winning pitcher, allowing just 1 hit with 10 strikeouts, as the Warriors (5-4, 2-2) won in the Northeast Athletic Conference. Fugiel was also 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI.

CL Central 8, Dundee-Crown 1: Amanda Eissler had 2 doubles for D-C in this Fox Valley Conference crossover loss. Melany Love was the Chargers’ losing pitcher.

Neuqua Valley 9, Streamwood 4: Brittany Delao had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Holley Foret added 2 hits and an RBI for the Sabres (2-10, 1-4) in this Upstate Eight loss. Kellee Conquest was the losing pitcher.

College softball

Judson splits: Brittany Holm had 3 hits and 3 RBI and Nicole Dimiceli 3 hits and an RBI as Judson won the nightcap of this CCAC doubleheader 13-0. The Eagles (24-12, 10-4) lost Game 1 by a 9-1 score and slipped a game behind the leaders in the CCAC race. Sam Gladen took the loss in Game 1 and Sarah Boyer fired a 1-hitter to win Game 2.
