LZ breaks out the bats

Lake Zurich’s baseball team got some much-needed offense and a much more-needed win Thursday.

Mark Dorfman homered, and Parker Asmann and Jeremy Reusch each went 2-for-3 with a walk, as the Bears defeated host Antioch 14-4 in a North Suburban Conference crossover.

Asmann had a triple and 3 RBI. Danny Minogue doubled for Lake Zurich (4-8).

“The Bear bats finally came alive,” coach Gary Simon said. “Key two-out RBIs have been lacking in our offense until today.”

Against Antioch (8-3), Lake Zurich got a pair of two-out RBI from Asmann and one apiece from Ben Gullo, Minogue and Reusch.

Mike Irgang (2-1) pitched well in recording the win, striking out 10 in a six-inning complete game (3 earned runs). He walked one and allowed 4 hits.

Carmel 9, Wauconda 7: Jimmy Ryan went 4-for-4, and Tommy Ryan doubled for the Corsairs in the nonconference game.

Sean Terrett earned the win for Carmel (5-4).

Grayslake North 5, Prairie Ridge 3: Brandon Fern and C.J. Bailey were both 2-for-4 for the Knights in the Fox Valley Conference game.

Carl Russell added a double, and Grayslake North (4-8, 3-3) stole six bases, including two by Travis McKenzie.

The Knights got RBI from Russell, Bailey, Nick Stanfel, Andy Tatera and McKenzie.

Kyle Fosco (1-1) notched the win, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings, while striking out six. Tom Elias gave up an unearned run in the seventh, picking up his first save.
