Hall of a comeback for Schaumburg

Nonconference baseball games between Schaumburg and St. Viator have been wild ones the last few years.

There was nothing ordinary about Tuesday’s matchup. A 2-run single by Jeremy Hall with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a 4-run rally that gave the host Saxons (6-1) a 9-8 victory.

Schaumburg scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5. St. Viator (5-5) went ahead with 3 runs in the top of the eighth.

Dave Geller, Matt Brancato, Mark Bielanski and Jordan Grubb had 2 hits apiece as the Saxons won their sixth straight game. Kole Luthringshausen and Kevin Patzke homered for Viator.

Last year’s game ended in a 15-15 tie after seven innings and two years ago Viator won 15-9.

Leyden 2, Addison Trail 0: Sandro Irizzary (3-0) threw a 3-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks as Leyden (9-0, 6-0) completed the three-game West Suburban Gold sweep of Addison Trail.

Palatine 11, Libertyville 1: Steve Schneberger missed only a triple for the cycle as he had 3 hits and 5 RBI on Monday for Palatine (7-7) in its five-inning win at Libertyville. Winning pitcher Kurt Becker threw a 6-hitter with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk and had 2 hits and Vince Portera drove in 2 runs.
