Student’s sentiment touched teachers

Imagine our surprise recently to walk into our math office and discover a student had left us a cake with “let them eat cake” lettered on the top. The cake was a special treat, but the letter attached was much more.

A student stated that she “... (wanted) to take the chance to say how much I look up to every single one of you, whether I have had you as a teacher or not, and whether you know exactly who I am or are scratching your head in confusion. Each and every faculty member at this school has impacted my education in some sort of positive manner, be it small or large, and for that I truly do thank you. Whatever the final results may be of all of this, I want you all to understand just how fantastic you really are and to never feel like you are unsuccessful in life. Every last one of you has influenced a student in some way, leaving a lasting mark on that student for the rest of their life. To me, there is no greater accomplishment. For as long as I live I don’t think I will ever meet any greater role models than the ones that I have encountered at Dundee-Crown High School. Some of you may still be asking yourself, “why cake?” My answer is “why not?” You have been through a lot this week, so I figured there’s no better way to feel slightly better than with some cake...”

I have worked at Dundee-Crown High School for almost 20 years and in that time have seen a lot of changes. I have always been impressed with the students at our school; they never cease to amaze. I am very proud of our students and faculty and ache for all affected by Wednesday’s vote (to cut 363 positions).

In the coming weeks as plans are laid out for the futures of our students I will continue to do my best to assist our students as they prepare for life after high school.

Thank you to this caring, compassionate, young lady for sharing herself with us.
