Palatine turns back Schaumburg

Palatine passed a crucial test in its bid to repeat as Mid-Suburban West champions, topping visiting Schaumburg 13-11 on Tuesday.

The Pirates held an 11-6 lead after the third quarter, but Schaumburg drew within 2 goals at 12-10 before both teams scored once more in the final minute.

Justin Behrens scored 5 goals and had 3 steals for the Pirates (11-1, 5-0), who also got big contributions from Kamil Mulawa and Dylan Weissmann (3 goals and 5 steals apiece) and John Giuliano (2 goals, 2 steals).

Schaumburg (11-5, 3-2) got 5 goals from Mike Gergen, and 3 apiece from Randy Carr and Justin Chen.

Palatine goalkeeper Dan Sommerfeld had 8 saves, and Schaumburg goalie Mike George made 8 and had 10 steals.

Ÿ Sang M. Han scored 3 goals and Mike Christen had 2 as visiting Hoffman Estates edged Barrington 7-6 in MSL West play to improve to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in divisional play.

Broncos goalkeeper Chris Hoover made 13 saves, and James Rodney scored twice for Barrington (2-12, 0-5).
