National Library Week kicks off in Schaumburg
Blossom at the Schaumburg Township District Library with face painting, a caricature artist and puppet workshops during the National Library Week kickoff celebration from noon-3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.
Children ages 14 and younger are invited to celebrate National Library Week in the lobby and in Youth Services. A caricature artist will be located in the Youth Services classroom, while children can get their faces painted in Program Room 1. There will also be a wandering Pocket Lady, who will have prizes to hand out. Each child will receive a free ticket for the face painter, the caricature artist and the Pocket Lady.
The library’s mascot, Reggie the Reading Raccoon, will be available to meet young patrons and pose for pictures. There will also be puppet workshops in the Youth Services Craft Room. Children ages 4-8 may attend the session from 12:15-1:15 p.m., accompanied by parents or guardians to assist them. The following workshop, from 1:45-2:45 p.m., is for kids ages 9-12. Limited seating is available at both sessions.
Teens are welcome to play video games on the large screen in the Audiovisual Theatre from noon-3 p.m. There will also be a teen table in the lobby, where staff will be available to answer questions regarding teen programs. Contests and prizes for teens will also be offered. From Sunday, April 10, through Saturday, April 16, teens in grades 6-12 can enter drawings for Schaumburg area store gift certificates by filling out online or paper surveys.
Adults are invited to peruse the lobby tables, pick up information, ask questions and receive handouts during the kickoff event. Contest forms will be available at the General Information table for patrons who want to demonstrate their knowledge of the library. Three winners will receive the opportunity to be featured on a READ poster.
All ages are invited to enter a drawing for unique flower pots, artfully decorated by library staff. Each visitor will receive one free ticket for the drawing, and more tickets may be obtained for a donation of nonperishable foods — one ticket per item — or a suggested donation of 50 cents each. Donated food and cash will be given to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. Tickets will be available at the Check-in Desk.
