Cary-Grove’s Straumann to Rhode Island

Cary-Grove senior point guard Megan Straumann has committed to accept a basketball scholarship from Division I University of Rhode Island, the Daily Herald learned late Thursday night.

Straumann, a Daily Herald All-Area performer and an honorable mention AP all-stater, came back from an ACL injury that claimed her junior season to help the Trojans go 27-4, win their second straight Fox Valley Conference Valley Division championship and advance to the sectional finals.

She averaged 9.6 points, 3.3 assists and 3 steals per game and had 29 3-pointers.

At Rhode Island, which plays in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Straumann will join third-year coach Cathy Inglese. Rhode Island was 7-21 this past season and 1-13 in the A-10.

Former St. Charles North guard Kiley Hackbarth is also a member of the Rhode Island team.
