West Chicago math students celebrate Pi Day

On Monday, March 21, the students in Ms. Moore's math classes at West Chicago Middle School observed Pi Day in very memorable ways.

On this day of celebrating the desks were arranged in a circle around the room. Students and visitors indulged in circular foods and juice in circular containers, while they listened to the story Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi.

According to Ms. Moore, Pi Day, which is generally celebrated on March 14 (3.14), is a day to recognize the irrational number Pi.

Pi relates to the circumference and diameter of a circle and its value is approximately 3.14 159. Therefore celebrating Pi Day on the date of 3.14 helps students remember the value Pi as well as its connection to circles.
