St. Edward drops opener at Winnebago

The St. Edward softball team scored 4 runs in the final three innings Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback in a 7-5 loss to host Winnebago, spoiling Jaci Corn’s debut as Green Wave coach.

The Green Wave outhit the Indians 13-6 and made only 1 error compared to 3 errors for Winnebago, but the Wave left the bases loaded once and couldn’t stop the bleeding in Winnebago’s 7-run fourth inning.

“They were a little disappointed because they wanted to win so badly,” Corn said of her players. “We just walked too many, including 2 walks with the bases loaded.

“But there were a lot of good things and we can only go up from here. We came out with a loss, but we all learned something we can apply come Thursday (at Morris).”

Green Wave batting leaders included Kali Kossakowski (4-for-4, R), Veronica Rolando (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Tarah McShane (4-for-4, 2 triples, RBI, R).

Sarah Field took the loss in the circle for St. Edward (0-1).
