Author Sara Pennypacker to visit Schaumburg library
From a small town in a small state comes an author big on creativity and imagination. Children’s author Sara Pennypacker, who lives in Massachusetts, will visit the Schaumburg Township District Library from 4-5 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, in the Rasmussen Room.
Known for her Clementine and Flat Stanley books, Pennypacker will talk about her experiences and writing, as well as sign books following her presentation. Some of the author’s books will be available for purchase during the program.
Pennypacker’s humor and whimsy is apparent even before opening her books. Check out the covers by going to amazon.com and you’ll know the inside pages hold fun adventures. In addition to her Clementine and Flat Stanley books, she has written “Stuart’s Cape,” “Stuart Goes to School,” “Pierre in Love,” “Sparrow Girl” and others.
The author credits her creativity to her years of reading and painting as a child. She says she was very shy during her school years and felt awkward being the tallest person in her classes.
“When I was a kid, I loved books and I loved art,” she says. “Books and art didn’t care that I was shy. Books and art didn’t care that I was tall. So I read and made up stories, drew, painted and did mosaics and carved things.” The author says she is “still happiest reading, writing and making art.”
Lucky for us, Pennypacker never realized her childhood dream of playing shortstop for the Boston Red Sox. Instead, she gave the world award-winning books to draw children into the wonderful world of reading.
Many of Pennypacker’s books are available from the Schaumburg Township District Library.
We invite all ages to visit the library today to meet this innovative and inspiring author. No fee or registration is required.
