Free glucose testing on March 12 at Meijer
One in three American adults are at risk for diabetes, do you know if you're one of them?
Nearly 24 million Americans live with diabetes, and 57 million are not far behind with pre-diabetes. In an effort to raise awareness of this disease, Meijer will be presenting an in-store healthy living event at all store locations from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, March 12.
In support of the cause, each Meijer location will feature a sampling demonstration of diabetic-friendly food including Meijer Chocolate Diabetic Nutritional Shakes, Daisy Low-Fat Cottage Cheese, Meijer Sugar-Free Ice Cream, and Ready Pack Bistro Salads, as well as Meijer Smoked Fresh Atlantic Salmon (which will not be available at Orland Park or Niles locations).
A trained Meijer pharmacy technician in the pharmacy department will provide free glucose testing. Customers are also encouraged to pick up a free Meijer "Healthy Living Naturally" booklet entitled "Preventing and Reversing Diabetes," containing information on how to prevent and reverse pre-diabetes, diabetic-friendly food and recipes, plus simple meal planning.
Diabetes is characterized by high blood sugar levels resulting from defects in the body's ability to produce and/or use insulin. Diabetes is a very dangerous disease and it is expensive to manage successfully.
