U-46 students, staff, raise money to fight children’s cancer

On Friday, March 11, about 20 students and teachers from Elgin Area U-46 will shave their heads to help conquer kids cancer.

The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Kenyon Woods Middle School, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin, with 1,150 students and staff in attendance.

Additional money will be raised by a raffle of gift cards and other merchandise donated by the Kenyon Woods PTO.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money to fund the most promising research on cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives, has issued a challenge to everyone who wants to help raise money for pediatric cancer research: Shave your head in return for pledges of financial support from friends and family.

Participants shave their heads in solidarity with the 160,000 children who are diagnosed with cancer each year and frequently lose their hair as a result of treatment.
