Christian Liberty advances to regional final

Christian Liberty’s boys basketball program took another step forward in its second year of IHSA competition on Wednesday night.

The second-seeded Chargers (11-14) advanced to the championship game of their own Class 1A regional with a 55-41 semifinal win over No. 3 Elgin Academy at Grace Gym in Arlington Heights.

Luke Comerouski had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals to send Christian Liberty into Friday’s 7:30 p.m. championship game against top-seed North Shore Country Day, a 46-32 winner over Chicagoland Jewish in the other semifinal. Last year, Christian Liberty lost in the regional semifinals.

Comerouski scored 20 or more points for the sixth time in eight games. Ben Thomas had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Mike Hennek added 9 points.

Christian Liberty led at halftime before losing 52-45 to North Shore on Feb. 16. The regional champion advances to the Mooseheart sectional.
