Junior high students learn about sewing and cooking

The Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Fremd High School opened its labs in January to prospective students during an Introduction to Fashion and Foods event.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Palatine Elementary School District 15 were invited to try their hand at both sewing and cooking, leaving the event with a fleece scarf and a bag of Chex mix.

This was the fourth annual event organized by fashion teacher and Fashion Club sponsor Courtney Young.

When asked what she was most looking forward to about high school, Abby Peterson of Palatine said, “Taking fun electives that weren’t offered in junior high.”

Foods teacher and Culinary Club sponsor Katie Fedota commented, “This is such a wonderfully organized event. This was the first year that culinary club participated and it worked out very well. It was great to be able to open our classrooms to the incoming students and share with them all that FHS has to offer.”
