Mayor addresses Realtors on homeownership benefits

Last week, area Realtors took advantage of a free training session, presented by the Illinois Housing Development Authority and Law Title Insurance, at the West Chicago Public Library, which focused on some of the latest programs for homebuyers. Those attending also heard a heartfelt testimonial to the benefits of homeownership in West Chicago from the city's mayor, Michael Kwasman. Among other things, Mayor Kwasman pointed out the wide range of housing price points, the continuing decline in the city's crime rate and a solid city budget.

The Realtor educational session included information on first-time homebuyer programs, including the Smart Move Signature Mortgage which allows up to $6,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance, as well as information on navigating the title issues related to short sales and foreclosures.

The training was in preparation of the Free West Chicago Homebuyer Fair which is scheduled for Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Community High School, 326 Joliet St.

The rair will feature resources to those interested in buying a home in West Chicago. It will offer consumers workshops presented by realtors, lenders and the DuPage Homeownership Center on topics such as current homebuyer programs available (FHA 203k, IHDA's down payment assistance programs, etc.); the importance of credit in obtaining a mortgage; and how to become a successful homeowner in today's market.

The city of West Chicago will also offer information highlighting the city and the benefits of living within the West Chicago community. For more information, contact Kathe Doremus at kmdoremus@gmail.com or (630) 212-7128.
