Fermilab’s Mr. Freeze to kick off Discovery 2011 Science Fair event

Building on the success of last year’s event, the Second Annual Science Fair — Discovery 2011 is about to begin.

The kickoff event will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at in the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., in Elgin. Discovery 2011 is open to all students in grades K-12 in U-46 and Gail Borden Library districts, including private school students and home-schooled children.

To get the students’ creative juices flowing, Fermilab’s “Mr. Freeze” will be on hand to demonstrate his cryogenics program complete with geysers, compressed gas and particle physics.

Students will receive a science exposition registration packet and begin their work for the actual exposition which will be on Saturday, April 16. The students will present their projects to their peers and community in a science fair held at the Gail Borden Library.

Students will be able to pick up materials at the library even if they are not able to attend the Feb. 10 event.
