Schaumburg’s cabin offers kids classes

Spend an afternoon in the 1880s.

The Schaumburg Park District will offer two programs for kids, ages 7-12, to learn skills possessed by early 1880s children on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Spring Valley Nature Center’s Merkle Cabin.

Candle Making in the Cabin will allow participants to learn about traditional candle making and make their own candles to take home. Class is from 3:45-5:45 p.m. The class fee is $8 for residents and $12 for nonresidents.

Keep warm from 6-8 p.m. during Cooking at the Cabin. Kids will learn about cooking over the open hearth fireplace and prepare traditional foods. The class fee is $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents. Participants meet at the main visitor center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Classes will be held at Merkle Cabin. Preregistration is required by Thursday, Feb. 3. For information, call (847) 985-2100.
