Viator treats home crowd

"Chicago Sky Night" brought out a bigger-than-usual crowd at St. Viator's Cahill Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

And the Lions girls basketball team treated those fans to a 53-43 nonconference victory over Regina.

Senior guard Megan Bailey led the hosts by equaling her career high of 15 points while junior guard Katie Gavin tossed in 13 with 4 rebounds.

"Megan shot the ball well," said Lions coach Paul Bjerkness, whose team improved to 12-13.

Senior guard Taylor Skala chipped in 8 points for Viator.

"What was nice is that we did a good job on the glass with Lauren Rooney, Morgan Hess and Maggie Dougherty giving a nice collective effort," Bjerkness said.

Christian Liberty 53, Elgin Academy 48: Balanced scoring and rebounding and a big finish propelled Christian Liberty to a 53-48 nonconference boys basketball victory over visiting Elgin Academy on Wednesday night at Grace Gym in Arlington Heights.

Luke Comerouski led the way with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the Chargers (6-10), who trailed 33-25 at halftime and 41-35 entering the fourth quarter.

Mike Hennek (13 points, 9 rebounds), Ben Thomas (10 points, 9 rebounds) and Matt Litzenberger (8 points, 7 rebounds) helped Christian Liberty to its second win in its last seven games.
