Boys basketball/Fox Valley roundup
The Westminster Christian boys basketball team earned its 10th victory of the season with a 46-39 nonconference triumph at Hinckley Big Rock Saturday, led by 13 points from senior guard Brandon Cork and 12 points from senior forward Luke Carani.
However, Warriors coach Bruce Firchau wasn't in a celebratory mood after the victory due to what he considers a disturbing trend involving 6-foot-8 center Ian Dutcher.
"Ian picked up 2 fouls in the first five minutes of the game for for the fourth time in 5 games," Firchau said. "We're doing pretty good overall right now, but it's not good to have Ian sitting for 10-12 minutes of the first half of every game. We need him."
Northridge Prep 53, Elgin Academy 24: Aaron Thomas scored 15 points, Patrick Martinak scored 7 points and Mike Grabek notched a bucket for the Hilltoppers, who were otherwise shut down by the visitors in a nonconference game at Elgin Academy (3-9).
Aurora Central Catholic 70, St. Edward 59: Senior guard Michael Ellis sank 11 field goals, including a 3-pointer, en route to a 30-point performance. However, it wasn't enough to lift the Green Wave to a road victory in the Suburban Christian Conference Gold,
Ed O'Halloran added 11 points for St. Edward (4-10, 1-3), which dropped its third straight game.
Metea Valley 62, Bartlett 53: The Hawks dropped their fifth straight game and fell to 0-5 in the Valley Division of the Upstate Eight Conference.
