Huntley school candidates make it a no-contest

Voters in Huntley Unit School District 158 won't need to agonize over who to vote for in the April 5 consolidated election. The races for the board's 2- and 4-year terms are now uncontested.

Although incumbents Michael Skala and Tony Quagliano submitted candidate petitions for both seats, each candidate subsequently withdrew from one race.

Skala is now the lone candidate for the 2-year term, which he currently holds. Meanwhile, Quagliano joins two other candidates for the three, 4-year seats. That race also includes incumbent Kevin Gentry, the current board president, and challenger William Gerehen. Board member Aileen Seedorf is not seeking re-election.

“We were concerned that there weren't enough people running, period,” Quagliano said. “Mike (Skala) and I had a discussion; we coordinated it.”

Quagliano was appointed to the board last spring when then-board President Shawn Green resigned.

Skala said he removed his name from the race for the 4-year term because of future uncertainties.

“Instead of running for the 4-year term and then potentially having to resign, I felt the 2-year term was more appropriate,” Skala said.
