Turn your Christmas tree to mulch in McHenry Co.
Residents in McHenry County are encouraged to take advantage of the county's free Christmas tree recycling program. The McHenry County Conservation District, along with the Algonquin, Dorr and Nunda township road districts, will collect Christmas trees that will be sent through a woodchipper to create a material suitable for mulching.
The McHenry County Conservation District at Glacial Park in Ringwood, Rush Creek in Harvard and Algonquin Township, will collect trees until Jan. 15. The program is open to all county residents. Call (815) 338-6223 for more information.
The Algonquin Township Road District at 3702 U.S. Highway 14 in Crystal Lake will collect trees until Jan. 31. Trees can be dropped of anytime.
Dorr Township residents can drop off their trees at the township road district at 12322 Davis Road in Woodstock between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Jan. 31. Call (815) 338-1060.
Nunda Township residents can drop trees at 3518 Bay Road, Crystal Lake through March. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of the month. Call (815) 459-4410.
All decorations must be removed from the trees before recycling.
