Wauconda tops McHenry, nets NIHC title game berth

Wauconda's girls basketball team exacted some revenge on McHenry Tuesday night.

Tammy Ellis had 17 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and 4 rebounds to lead Wauconda to a 39-33 win over host McHenry, earning the Bulldogs a berth in the championship game of the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Wauconda (13-0, 4-0 tourney) will play Richmond-Burton at 1:30 p.m. today at McHenry.

Last year, McHenry edged Wauconda 48-46 in the tournament semifinals.

In addition to Ellis, Melanie Prudhomme (14 points) also scored in double figures for the Bulldogs. Roslyn Summerville added 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Diana Enriquez had 5 steals.

Round Lake 43, Rockford Jefferson 39: At Woodstock North, Chanae Brown scored 20 points and the Panthers outscored the J-Hawks 14-6 in the fourth quarter.

"We just kept playing hard, got to some loose balls and made some free throws (7)," Round Lake coach Howard Conkling said.

Krystal Pitts added 12 points for the Panthers (5-9, 1-3), who play North Chicago at 1:30 p.m. today at Woodstock North.

Trinity 51, Lake Zurich 26: At Wheaton St. Francis, the Blazers got 18 points from Megan Podkowa.

Lake Zurich was led by Cathryne Spear's 9 points.

Streamwood 51, Mundelein 44: At Mundelein, Olivia Dunigan scored a game-high 16 points in a losing effort for the host Mustangs.

Taylor Davis added 10 for Mundelein (6-9, 1-2 tourney).

Hannah McGlone had 14 points for the Sabres.

Lake Park 41, Vernon Hills 35: At Mundelein, Meri Bennett-Swanson scored 15 points for the Cougars, who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Vernon Hills (7-7, 1-2) also got 10 points from Lauren Webb.
