Community Resource Center open house in Hoffman Estates
A new Hoffman Estates Community Resource Center, located in the new police station building, 411 W. Higgins Road, held an open house this month. The dedicated space features creative areas, toys, books and learning opportunities for neighborhood children.
The CRC is sponsored by the village in partnership with Schaumburg Township Elementary School District 54, which also provided most of the furnishings and educational materials. This new facility will also allow District 54, in cooperation with the village, to expand their adult learning and English as a second language classes by utilizing the police department's new training room, which is adjacent to the CRC.
Additionally, the Health and Human Services Department provides an array of supportive services, including low-cost vaccinations, counseling, educational groups and youth programming. Currently, the village offers the following outreach services:
Ÿ Real-Girls Real-Talk: a group for fourth through sixth grade girls that focuses on increasing self-esteem and leadership. Topics discussed also include body image and anti-bullying.
Ÿ Reaching for the Stars: an eight- to 10-week program that focuses on conflict resolution, building leadership and cultural identity.
Ÿ Lion's Pride: a group for young boys that focuses on leadership development and gang prevention through healthy problem solving.
This is the village's second CRC location. The first, which is also administered in cooperation with District 54, is located in the Salem Hill/Interlude Apartments, 700 Salem Drive, Apt. 120.
