Young, Hunt to represent MSL at all-star event
The Mid-Suburban League East and West girls volleyball players of the year have been selected to play in an all-star event Monday at 7 p.m. at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.
Schaumburg's Emily Young, who is a USC recruit, and Prospect's Sarah Hunt (Cornell) were chosen for the best-of-five match that will be broadcast live on SportsTownChicago.com with audio/video for free.
Dr. Peter Ferreiri, the program director SportsTownChicago.com., has planned the seniors-only event as a fundraiser for breast cancer research.
“I had the honor of seeing many of these girls play their best during the regular and postseason and felt they deserve to display their skills one last time before they go off to impress their colleges,” Ferreiri said.
Thirty six of the top Illinois high school girls players chosen by sportswriters/reporters/analysts from across the state make up the two teams.
The two head coaches are Cary-Grove's Patty Langanis and Chicago Christian's James Garcia.
Funds raised at this event will support A Silver Lining Foundation (www.asilverliningfoundation.org), which funds free mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women at six partner hospitals. Sports Town Chicago is located at the campus of the Illinois Center for Broadcasting in Lombard.
