Scouting Wheaton Warrenville South girls basketball

Wheaton Warrenville South

Coach: Rob Kroehnke.

Last year: 20-10, 8-6, third in the DuPage Valley Conference; lost to Hinsdale Central 30-29 in Class 4A Hinsdale Central regional final.

Top players: Annie Shain, sr., G; Hannah Credille, sr., F; Krysta Watts, jr., F; Kasey Gassensmith, jr., F.

Scouting report: The Tigers graduated four key seniors off a bounce-back 20-win team. Don’t tell Kroehnke he’s rebuilding, though. He already has two strong building blocks in four-year varsity players Shain and Credille. Credille finally looks close to full strength after two ACL surgeries. “First year since her freshman year that’s she’s healthy,” Kroehnke said. “I’m excited to see what she can do.” Shain is a strong perimeter shooter and will provide guidance to four Tigers sophomores and two freshmen. Watts, who blew out her knee in January, is back and adds more varsity experience. Gassensmith, long and athletic, is a great defender who can slash to the basket. “She’s worked hard on her game,” Kroehnke said, “and will definitely have a bigger role for us this year.”
