DUI trial delayed for ex-Rolling Meadows football coach

The driving under the influence trial for Doug Millsaps, the former Rolling Meadows High School football coach, has been delayed until Jan. 10, 2011.

Kane County Judge Kevin T. Busch granted the delay to allow the prosecution additional time to interview a witness.

Millsaps, who coached at Rolling Meadows for 14 years, resigned from his coaching position Nov. 2. He guided the Mustangs to a 77-64 record and nine playoff appearances.

He is charged with driving under the influence stemming from a June 6, 2009 incident in Geneva. Police say an officer found Millsaps, 47, of Bolingbrook, sleeping in his car at 3:23 a.m. the 0-99 block of Ford Street with the keys in the ignition. According to the police report, Millsaps had bloodshot, glassy eyes, poor balance and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He failed a horizontal gaze sobriety test, then refused further testing.

At a September hearing, Millsaps said he is innocent, and will let the process play out in the courts.

“I firmly believe I didn't do anything wrong,” Millsaps said.

Alluding to the public attention his case is getting, he said, “My process won't

be the same as most people's but I'll let the legal system work through it.”

Millsaps also pleaded guilty to DUI in Wood Dale from a 2004 arrest.

School District 214 said Millsaps will remain as a physical education teacher.
