Lakes advances at Wauconda's expense
Lakes 3, Wauconda 2: At Lakes, Jonathan Stanley headed home Nate McMahon's cross in overtime to give the host Eagles the championship of their own Class 2A regional.
Stanley scored all three goals for Lakes (9-9-5), which earned a berth in its own sectional. The Eagles will play the winner of the Hampshire regional at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Wauconda (11-10-2) scored twice in the second half to wipe out a 2-0 deficit.
Stanely scored twice in the first half, drilling in a penalty kick before finishing a pass from Matt Whipple.
Stanley scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute, flicking in a header that dropped under the crossbar for his 15th goal of the season.
“It's a great relief to win,” Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said. “We did a lot of good things during the game. I would have been ashamed if we lost. It was nice to see a break go our way.”
Highland Park 1, Lake Zurich 0: At Highland Park, the host Giants won the Class 3A regional to end the Bears' season at 12-7-2.
