Elgin wins, will meet Larkin in regional semi

Tamo Estrada scored 2 goals as the Elgin boys soccer team knocked off host Rockford Guilford 4-2 Saturday in the opening round of the Class 3A Guilford regional.

The Maroons (7-14-1) will move on to play crosstown rival Larkin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the regional semifinals. Elgin beat Larkin earlier in the season.

Giovanni Hernandez and Angel Dominguez scored single goals for Elgin in Saturday's win, while Luis Monroy had 2 assists. Sammy Escobar and Carlos Moreno added assists as well and Tony Benitez made 6 saves in goal.

Westminster Christian 8, Elgin Academy 1: Josh Beachler scored 5 goals to lead the Warriors (10-6-1) to an easy win in the semifinals of the Class 1A Westminster Christian regional. Westminster will take on North Shore Country Day at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the regional finals. Steven Hoeflich, Tim Rogers and Josh Sanders each added goals for the Warriors in Saturday's win, while Ian Dutcher and Steve Bier combined for 9 saves in goal. Aaron Thomas scored Elgin Academy's lone goal and Tom Tunca had 8 saves in the net for the Hilltoppers (5-12).

York 2, Streamwood 1: York made 2 first-half goals stand up and ended Streamwood's season in the Class 3A Lake Park regional. Alejandro Avalos scored the Sabres' only goal and Jose Resindiz had 8 saves in the net for Streamwood (3-16-1).
