Westminster wins regional opener

Josh Beachler scored a hat trick Wednesday as the Westminster Christian boys soccer team opened the Class 1A postseason with a 6-2 win over St. Martin de Porres in the opening round of the Warriors' own regional.

Westminster will take on Elgin Academy at 11 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.

Tim Rodgers, Steven Hoeflich and Josh Sanders also scored for Westminster and Ian Dutcher registered the save in goal.

Larkin 5, St. Francis 2: Erik Rodriguez and Manny Aguilar each scored twice and Matthaus Warren added a goal as Larkin (14-6-1) won in nonconference action. Rodriguez and Tony Hernandez each had 2 assists and Josue Medina added one. Santiago Guerrero had 5 saves in goal for the Royals.

Bartlett 1, West Chicago 1: Charlie Sordini scored Bartlett's goal in this nonconference tie. Alex Busch made 9 saves in goal for the Hawks (11-6-4).

Elgin 3, Burlington Central 2: Samuel Escobar scored 2 goals and Jon Sandoval added one to lead Elgin to a nonconference win. Carlos Moreno and Alberto Olaya each had assists for the Maroons (6-14-1), who got 4 saves in goal from Tony Benitez. Alejandro Nava and Matthew O'Connor scored for the Rockets (15-4-3) and Paolo Sepene had an assist. Matthew Dahlberg and Michael Parker combined for 3 saves in goal for BC.
