Volleyball: Libertyville stops BG

The seniors on Libertyville's volleyball team celebrated senior night Tuesday by contributing in a big way to defeat Buffalo Grove 25-22, 25-16 in a nonconference match.

The Wildcats improved to 27-1.

Senior Paige Hopper contributed 7 kills, senior Ryan Cummins added six, and senior Catie Steffen had four. Senior Kaca Savatic notched 11 assists for the Wildcats, and senior Olivia Wilcox dished out eight.

Libertyville coach Greg Loika played Hannah Saia at libero, and the senior responded with 13 digs. Savatic and Steffen both had seven, and Cummins and Hopper added six each.

“It was nice to see our seniors out there playing as one unit, and I was pleased with the way they responded when Set 1 tightened up on them, Loika said.

Crystal Lake Central d. Grayslake Central: While the Rams started well, they could not continue the momentum and lost the Fox Valley Fox match 20-25, 25-7, 25-13. #8220;We were two different teams tonight, Rams coach Jason Janczak said. #8220;We want to be more like that first set team. Klaudia Basierak slammed 6 kills, and Lucy Peterson and Allie Black each added 5 kills for Grayslake Central (19-10, 5-5). Emily Anderson had 16 assists. Beth Arnold had 2 blocks for the Rams, and Peterson and Black each added one.Conant d. Mundelein: Brittany Busscher hit 11 for 12 with 5 kills, as the Mustangs fell to the Cougars 25-23, 25-23 in nonconference play.Madi Wilcox served 10 of 11 with 2 aces, and Emily Tylka added 16 digs for Mundelein (13-14).St. Viator d. Carmel: The host Lions prevailed in the East Suburban Catholic match 25-22, 20-25, 25-23.Hannah Turner and Jessie Wayland had 5 and 4 kills, respectively, for Carmel (24-9), while Karrah Toby recorded 12 digs.
