St. Edward advances to sectional
The St. Edward girls golf team may not have shot the most sparkling scores on the Golf Club of Illinois course Wednesday, but the Green Wave will play another day nonetheless.
The Green Wave shot a 477 to edge Lisle by 1 shot for the final qualifying spot out of the Class 1A Westminster Christian regional, qualifying the squad to Monday's Lena-Winslow sectional.
Westmont won Monday's regional with a 405 and Somonauk was second at 440. Somonauk sophomore Jessica Schultz was the individual medalist with an 83.
Junior Maddie Wazowicz led St. Edward with a 96, followed by a 99 from senior Brittania Schreurs, a 118 from senior Kelsey Richmond and a 164 from freshman Elizabeth Lamp.
Elgin Academy freshman Mandy Kuzyk shot a 116 to advance to the sectional as an individual.
Class 2A at Freeport: Burlington Central junior Katie Cappas shot an even 100 to earn the final individual qualifying spot from the Freeport regional at Park Hills. She will play in the Rockford Guilford sectional at Ingersoll on Monday.Rockford Boylan won the team title at Freeport with a 335. Hononegah (357) and Freeport (373) also advanced. Boylan sophomore Melissa VanSistine was the individual medalist with a 76.Burlington finished sixth as a team with a 415.
