Spring Valley Heritage Farm to host Autumn Harvest Fest Sunday

Families can get a taste of pioneer-era and 1880s farm life at the annual Autumn Harvest Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Spring Valley Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road in Schaumburg.

Spring Valley Nature Center's largest and most popular event of the year features hands-on demonstrations of cider pressing, grain threshing, blacksmithing, cow milking and use of draft horses.

New this year is a Native American wigwam interpretive area, flint-knapping demonstration and winter wheat planting activity.

Kids' crafts, 19th-century games and hayrides are accompanied by live string music on two stages to complete the festive atmosphere.

Grilled food, taffy apples, roast ear corn and beverages will be available for purchase.

The cost of the event is $4 per person and $16 per family of six or fewer. Additional members cost $4 each, and children 3 and younger are admitted free.

Parking is available at both the Nature Center at 1111 E. Schaumburg Road and off Plum Grove Road across from the Heritage Farm.
