Libertyville stays perfect with victory over Lakes

Make it a sweet 16 for Libertyville's girls volleyball team.

The Wildcats defeated Lakes 25-9, 25-9 in a North Suburban Conference crossover Wednesday night to improve to 16-0.

Kristen Webb notched 15 digs and Catie Steffen added seven for the Wildcats. Cindy Zhou dished 9 assists and served 4 aces, while adding 3 blocks and 2 kills. Kerry Risley contributed 3 kills and 2 blocks for Libertyville. Steffen also had 2 kills and 2 aces.

Lakes (3-11) got 2 aces from Kailey Molloy.

Lake Zurich d. Round Lake: Natalie Gora slammed 12 kills and Layne Self added eight, as the Bears won 25-17, 25-18.

Alexis Hartman served 3 aces and lofted 21 assists on 52-of-52 setting for Lake Zurich (14-4). Dori Darras had 3 kills for the Bears.

Round Lake was led by Chanae Brown with 6 kills and 6 blocks. Lorena Gomez had 5 blocks for the Panthers.

Lake Forest d. Antioch: The Scouts won the NSC crossover 25-18, 25-20.

Antioch (10-9) got 3 kills from Brianna Grant, 9 digs from Amber Dalgaard and 2 aces apiece from Grant and Lindsey Gofron.

Mundelein d. North Chicago: Emily Tylka served 5 aces and added a pair of kills for the Mustangs in their 25-11, 25-17 win.

Mundelein (9-10) also had Madi Wilcox serve 9 of 9.

Vernon Hills d. Warren: Shannon Nugent slammed 7 kills and delivered 5 aces, and Alisa Welter walloped 5 kills, as the Cougars prevailed 25-19, 25-23 in the NSC crossover.

Vernon Hills (9-11) also got 3 kills apiece from Rachel Lira and Jenn Claussen, while Jasmine Tamalumas set 22 of 22 with 15 assists and posted 6 digs. The Cougars' Christine Currie was 12 of 12 on serve-receive.

"We served really well, which allowed for us to force some errors," Vernon Hills coach Abbie Gutzmer said. "Our passing allowed the setters to get the ball to our hitters, who took care of putting balls away."

Warren (8-12) received 3 kills apiece from Paige Jespersen and Jaime Dickinson. who also had 3 blocks. Libby Perrone added 2 kills and 2 aces for the Blue Devils, and Kendall Farmer chipped in 2 kills and 2 blocks.
